Recognition and/or enforcement of foreign money judgments

Pursuant to Article 362 of the Law on Civil Proceeding stipulates that Lao People’s Democratic Republic acknowledges and executes a foreign judgement through embassy or consular or representative offices of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic based in each respective country and the said judgement must be completely translated into Lao language, so the relevant court of Lao People’s Democratic Republic shall recognize a foreign judgement based on the following criteria:

  • The judgement must be originated from a country that is a party to relevant international treaty in which Lao People’s Democratic Republic is also a party; 
  • The judgement must not negatively impact the sovereignty of the state or contradict any law of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; [and] 
  • The judgement must not destabilise the security and social order of Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
