Inland Revenue Board Of Malaysia (LHDN):

LHDN is one of the main revenue collecting agencies of the Ministry of Finance. LHDN was established in accordance with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia Act 1995 to give it more autonomy especially in financial and personnel management as well as to improve the quality and effectiveness of tax administration.

Companies Commission Of Malaysia (SSM):

SSM is a statutory body formed as a result of a merger between the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and the Registrar of Businesses (ROB) in Malaysia which regulates companies and businesses. SSM came into operation on 16 April 2002. The main activity of SSM is to serve as an agency to incorporate companies and register businesses as well as to provide company and business information to the public. As the leading authority for the improvement of corporate governance, SSM fulfils its function to ensure compliance with business registration and corporate legislation through comprehensive enforcement and monitoring activities so as to sustain positive developments in the corporate and business sectors of the Nation.

Central Bank Of Malaysia (BNM):

BNM is a statutory body which started operations on 26 January 1959. BNM is governed by the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009. The role of Bank Negara Malaysia is to promote monetary and financial stability. This is aimed at providing a conducive environment for the sustainable growth of the Malaysian economy.

Intellectual Property Corporation Of Malaysia (MyIPO):

To respond to the development of intellectual property at domestic and global levels, the Intellectual Property Division which was placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs was corporatized on 3 March 2003 and known as the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (PHIM), with the enforcement of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia Act 2002.

Securities Commission Malaysia (SC):

Established on 1 March 1993 under the Securities Commission Act 1993, the SC is a self-funding statutory body with investigative and enforcement powers. It reports to the Minister of Finance and its accounts are tabled in Parliament annually. Apart from discharging its regulatory functions, the SC is also obliged by statute to encourage and promote the development of the securities and derivatives markets in Malaysia.

Department Of Director General Of Lands And Mines (JKPTG):

As a pioneer for the national land administration and management, JKPTG role is on amendment or improvement of any provision of land law and legislation regarding land administration, management of the record of Federal Government’s Property in Land, to make an acquisition ofalienated land for Federal Project purposes, tenancy and enforcement of Federal Government’s Property in Land and management of Small Estate Distribution.

SKM is an entity that was incorporated on January 1, 2008. SKM was formerly known as the Co-operative Development Department of Malaysia (JPK). At its inception in July 1922, the department called The Office of The Director of Co-operatives serves to form, register and develop co-operatives under The Co-operative Societies Enactment 1922 [FMS Cap. 97 of 1935] and was assigned to guide and develop the cooperative movement.

The Registry of Societies Malaysia (ROS):

ROS is a department under the Ministry of Home Affairs handling non-governmental organisations and political parties. In Section 2 of the Societies Act 1966, a society is defined as any club, partnership or association that consists of seven (7) or more persons, whatever its nature or object, whether temporary or permanent, but does not include bodies that require registration under any written law, such as companies, cooperatives, trade unions, parent-teacher associations and sports bodies.

Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC):

MPC which was formerly known as the National Productivity Corporation was established in 1962 as a joint project between the United Nations Special Fund and the Federal Government, with the International LabourOrganisation acting as its executing agency. The functions of MPC, inter alia, to lead in the promotion and dissemination of productivity related information and issues, to establish an information and reference centre for productivity indices for the country and for management systems and case studies and to generate local expertise in the field of productivity, quality, management and entrepreneurship.

(a) Established pursuant to section 3 of the Subordinate Courts Act 1948.

(b) Every proceeding is presided by a Magistrate.

(c) To determine civil claims not exceeding RM100, 000.

(d) To try all offences involving a maximum term of imprisonment not exceeding 10 years or punishable with fine only, but may pass sentences of not more than 5 years imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, and/or up to 12 strokes of the cane.

(a) Established pursuant to section 3 of the Subordinate Courts Act 1948.

(b) Every proceeding is presided by a Judge of the Sessions Court.

(c) To determine civil claims which exceed RM100,000 but not more than RM1 million save for matters relating to motor vehicle accidents, landlord and tenant and distress, in which the Sessions Court has unlimited jurisdiction.

(d) To try serious criminal offences such as robbery, rape, corruption and commercial crimes. It has unlimited jurisdiction in imposing sentence in accordance with the law except the death penalty.

(a) Original jurisdiction

  • Civil – Unlimited jurisdiction to determine actions involving claims exceeding RM1 million.

  • Criminal – To determine all criminal matters punishable with death (murder, drug trafficking, treason, firearms and kidnapping).


(b) Appellate jurisdiction – to determine appeals originating from the Subordinate Courts.

(c) Supervisory jurisdiction – to review the decisions of inferior courts, tribunals and other bodies or persons who carry out quasi-judicial functions.
