Meeting of the Working Group on the ASEAN+ Meetings

Posted on : 16 Nov 2020
The Working Group on ASEAN+ Meetings (“ASEAN+ WG”) met virtually on 24 September 2020 to discuss the results of the survey on ASEAN judicial needs and legal engagements with China, Japan and South Korea. Survey results show that most of the ASEAN Judiciaries do have some form of engagement with China and mutual visits between the courts and/or their respective training institutions, but progressively less so with Japan and Korea. The meeting also agreed to move back the timeline of the ASEAN+ WG workplan by about one year to take into account the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the meeting agreed to explore potential engagement with non-judiciary international organisations as part of the subsequent stages of the ASEAN+ WG’s workplan.
